How it works

Four steps, one friendly team

  1. Check your BMI

Use the calculator below for a quick starting point. It is only a guide.

  2. Book a consultation

Choose a time online or by phone. Allow around 30 minutes.

  3. Meet your pharmacist

Measurements, a health questionnaire and an honest chat about your goals and options.

  4. Follow your plan with support

Regular reviews keep you on track and let us adjust the plan as you go.

The four pillars

Habits that make the difference

Whatever else is in your plan, these everyday foundations matter most. Here is what NHS guidance suggests.

Eat well

Aim for 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, choose wholegrains and lean protein, and watch portion sizes and sugary drinks.

Move more

Build up to around 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. Brisk walking counts, and every bit helps.

Sleep

Most adults need 7 to 9 hours. Poor sleep can increase appetite and cravings.

Mind & mood

Stress and emotional eating are common. Talking it through can help you find what works for you.

Is it for me?

Who the service can help

Any adult (18 or over) who wants support with their weight can book a consultation. You might find it especially helpful if you:

  • Have tried to lose weight before and found it hard to keep going
  • Have a health condition affected by your weight, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol
  • Want an honest, non-judgemental place to talk about your health
  • Would like regular check-ins rather than going it alone

Understanding BMI

BMI ranges for adults
RangeMost adultsAsian, Black African, Caribbean or Middle Eastern background
UnderweightBelow 18.5Below 18.5
Healthy weight18.5 to 24.918.5 to 22.9
Overweight25 to 29.923 to 27.4
Obese30 or above27.5 or above

These are the ranges the NHS uses. BMI is a guide, not a diagnosis, and it cannot tell muscle from fat. Health risks start at a lower BMI for adults from some backgrounds, so your pharmacist will look at the whole picture.

BMI calculator

Check your BMI

A quick guide to where you are today, using the same ranges as the NHS. Your answers stay on this device. Your pharmacist will talk you through what the result means for you.

The NHS uses a lower BMI range for some backgrounds, because health risks start at a lower BMI. Your answer only picks your range. It is never saved or sent.

Your BMI will appear here. It is a guide only, and your pharmacist will assess you properly.

BMI is only one measure of health and cannot tell muscle from fat. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not for anyone under 18: use the NHS calculator for children and teenagers instead. You can also try the NHS BMI calculator for adults.

You can book a consultation with us directly. With your permission we may let your GP know, and we will tell you if we think you should see them.

How much does it cost?

We will confirm the cost of the consultation and any follow-up appointments when you book, so there are no surprises.

What happens at the first appointment?

We measure your height, weight and blood pressure, ask about your health, medicines and goals, and agree a personalised plan together. Allow around 30 minutes.

Will you recommend a particular diet?

No fads. We follow NHS guidance and help you build habits that fit your life, which means food you enjoy and activity you will actually do.

Can medical options be discussed?

Where it is clinically appropriate, your pharmacist can talk through medical options with you during your consultation. This depends on your health, medicines and goals, and not everyone is suitable. Nothing is supplied without an individual assessment.
